I’m Simon Elliott, founder and co-owner of CLIFTON. I started this business and I still run it day to day. Our reputation matters to me personally. Not as a score on a platform, but as a reflection of the work we produce and the organisations who trust us.
CLIFTON is a global made-to-order custom clothing company supplying schools, universities, sports teams, organisations, and brands worldwide. Every garment we produce is manufactured specifically for each customer and delivered to approved designs, sizes, and timelines.
CLIFTON Reviews – Summary
CLIFTON reviews are generally mixed to positive, with strong feedback on product quality, design accuracy, and customization, alongside occasional concerns relating to production timelines.
It is important to note what we ARE:
- CLIFTON operates a made-to-order model
- Lead times are confirmed before checkout
- Orders are produced only after full approval
and we are NOT:
- Clifton Charles (New York tailoring company)
- Clifton Tailors
- Any other similarly named business
These are separate companies with different ownership, locations, and business models. Any reviews, complaints, or ratings relating to “Clifton Charles” or similar businesses do not apply to CLIFTON.
Why this page exists
Custom manufacturing works very differently from off-the-shelf retail. Outcomes are defined by what is formally approved before production begins, not by assumptions made afterwards.
Online review platforms do not always reflect that difference. A single organiser’s experience can represent a large group order. Disputes after approval can be presented as product faults. Algorithms often surface the most emotional accounts, not the most representative ones.
This page explains how our process works, how feedback should be interpreted in context, and how to assess CLIFTON fairly.
How CLIFTON orders actually work
We do not sell pre-made stock. Every order follows a structured, approval-led process refined over 18 years.
- Designs are confirmed visually
- Sizes and fits are selected and checked
- A formal order pack is approved before production
- Lead times are shown before checkout
- Production begins only after full approval
Once approved, garments are manufactured exactly to the agreed specification. There are no substitutions, silent changes, or discretionary adjustments.

Why reviews of custom clothing can appear polarised
Made-to-order businesses often show more extreme review patterns than stock retailers.
When a group order is delivered correctly and on time, customers rarely leave reviews. The process simply works. By contrast, if expectations shift after approval, or if internal committee disagreements arise, one organiser may publish a highly visible account representing dozens of people.
Common themes across the custom clothing industry include:
- Misunderstood lead times despite published timelines
- Size selections approved but later reconsidered
- Budget or design changes after production has begun
- Deadlines that change internally after ordering
These are not unique to CLIFTON. They are characteristics of bespoke manufacturing.
Communication and lead times
We publish production lead times clearly at checkout. Express dates are shown before payment is taken. Orders are scheduled based on those confirmed timelines.
We do not take payment and then “start discussing” timing afterwards. Timelines are visible before the order is placed.
If a customer has a strict deadline, it is critical that the express date shown at checkout aligns with that requirement. Custom manufacturing cannot be retrofitted to a new timeline once production has started.
Sizing and fit
Sizing concerns in custom clothing are rarely manufacturing errors. Garments are produced to the approved size and fit profile.
A medium in a tailored rugby shirt is intentionally different from a medium in a relaxed tee. This is why every product page includes detailed size guidelines and fit notes.
Once sizes are formally approved, garments are manufactured to those exact specifications. They are not adjusted after production begins. Accuracy follows approval.
How we handle reviews and disputes
We do not remove genuine customer reviews because they are negative. Critical feedback is part of operating a real business.
Reviews may be reported only where they:
- Relate to a non-customer
- Contain demonstrably false statements or personal abuse
Platform moderation decisions are made by the platform, not by CLIFTON.
Where legitimate customer issues arise, we refer to the approved order pack, agreed timelines, and production specification to resolve matters fairly and transparently.
Our track record
CLIFTON has delivered custom garments globally for over 18 years.
Our customers include:
- Schools and universities
- Sports clubs and touring teams
- Corporate and hospitality organisations
- Charities and event organisers
Many reorder year after year, often using the same designs with updated sizes or fit refinements.
We measure performance through repeat business, institutional relationships, on-time delivery, and adherence to approved specifications.
Independent coverage
CLIFTON has been featured in independent business press, including The London Standard, covering the company’s growth and bespoke clothing services.

Making an informed decision
Custom clothing is not a commodity purchase. It involves approvals, timelines, and shared responsibility.
If you are comparing suppliers or assessing a higher-value order, we encourage you to:
- Review the production process carefully
- Confirm deadlines before checkout
- Check size guidelines thoroughly
- Ask questions before approving the order pack
CLIFTON is a real business, run by a dedicated team. We operate from Chicago and work with customers globally.
Thank you for taking the time to research us properly.
